Linear Accelerator Design Study with Direct Plasma Injection Scheme for Warm Dense Matter∗

چکیده
Warm Dense Matter (WDM) is a challenging science field, which is related to heavy ion inertial fusion and planetary science. It is difficult to expect the behavior because the state with high density and low temperature is completely different from ideal condition. The well-defined WDM generation is required to understand it. Moderate energy ion beams (∼ MeV/u) slightly above Bragg peak is an advantageous method for WDM because of the uniform energy deposition. Direct Plasma Injection Scheme (DPIS) with a Interdigital H-mode (IH) accelerator has a potential for the beam parameter. We show feasible parameters of the IH accelerator for WDM.

Generation of Warm Dense Matter using an Argon based Capillary Discharge Laser
Argon based capillary discharge lasers operating in the extreme ultra violet (EUV) at 46.9 nm output up to 0.5 mJ energy per pulse at up to 10 Hz repetition rates are capable of focussed irradiances of 10 10 W cm−2 and can be used to generate plasma in the warm dense matter regime by irradiating solid material. To model the interaction between such an EUV laser and solid material, the 2D radiat...
متن کاملLinear dependence of surface expansion speed on initial plasma temperature in warm dense matter
Recent progress in laser-driven quasi-monoenergetic ion beams enabled the production of uniformly heated warm dense matter. Matter heated rapidly with this technique is under extreme temperatures and pressures, and promptly expands outward. While the expansion speed of an ideal plasma is known to have a square-root dependence on temperature, computer simulations presented here show a linear dep...

The neutralized drift compression experiment was designed and commissioned as a pulsed, linear induction accelerator to drive thin targets to warm dense matter (WDM) states with peak temperatures of ∼1 eV using intense, short pulses (∼1 ns) of 1.2 MeV lithium ions. At that kinetic energy, heating a thin target foil near the Bragg peak energy using He(+) ions leads to more uniform energy deposit...
متن کاملVisualization of expanding warm dense gold and diamond heated rapidly by laser-generated ion beams
With the development of several novel heating sources, scientists can now heat a small sample isochorically above 10,000 K. Although matter at such an extreme state, known as warm dense matter, is commonly found in astrophysics (e.g., in planetary cores) as well as in high energy density physics experiments, its properties are not well understood and are difficult to predict theoretically. This...
متن کاملThomson Scattering in Warm Dense Matter
The scattering of photons in plasmas is an important diagnostic tool. The region of warm dense matter can be probed by x-ray Thomson scattering. The scattering cross section is related to the dynamic structure factor S(k, ω). We focus on the contribution of free electrons to the dielectric function which is calculated in the Born–Mermin approximation. The inclusion of collisions modifies the dy...
